66 Korean songs that I liked in 2018. Part 5: 22-12

Another one of those.

22. HYOLYN - SEE SEA

Hyolyn channeling her inner big pussy energy into this retro beach thot anthem in the spirit of now disbanded Sistar is not something that I wanted, but something that I needed. Delightful synthy guitar sequence in addition with Hyolyn's honey "바다 보러 갈래 bae" (bada boro kallae bae) in the chorus shits all over the unmemorable verses. It even gets better when things get busier with the appearance of rock guitar and more of offbeat wooh yeah-s towards the end.

21. Jeong Jinwoon - All I Need Is You

"All I Need Is You" is a nice groovy number recorded under the toilet seat. It starts to be more interesting when the claps come in  and eventually climaxes at the I think of you everyday!.

20. pH-1 - Hate You

Our fave homebody flaker extracts whimsical side out of Code Kunst's bittersweet minimal beat's subtle and makes the most out of it. pH-1 achieves it by making a sacrifice: he basically sings 80% of the song rather than raps, but idgaf about that, I love the result. The revolutionary "I don’t wanna really haaaaaaaaate you, thaaank you!" should be cranked all the way up in volume. The other unenthusiastic kid is my least favorite part. He ruined the breakdown. It sounded weird. pH-1 was louder than him on the audio file, which created this strange dissonance in their volumes.

Bonus moe points for pH-1's impeccable aegyo during don’t really care lines in the performance video.

19. SEUNGRI - 1, 2, 3!

The strongest part for me is the pre-chorus carried out by Seungri's vocal swag and the highly energetic 1, 2, 3 chants combined with a nice instrumental melody in the chorus. The weakest part for me is the last verse with only claps present.

Bonus Jackie Chans for bloopers in the ending credits.

18. OLNL - KOKIRIKO

Please welcome this pioneer of the ugly cute Hip-Pop, OLNL-nim. Let's be real, he's not a rapper and idk how the fuck he got in SMTM, but that doesn't take away the incredible sad fun out of KOKIRIKO. Contradiction between the unbelievably catchy chorus' high-pitched autotune and OLNL's deep voice makes the whole song unique.

Bonus coins for cute overalls fashion.

Bonus yaeba for flat porno lighting.

17. Drunken Tiger - YET

Young rappers are getting more and more somnolent these days. Trust me. Shit ton of tedious 2018 rap songs by (un)known rappers went through me in the course of this stupid challenge. This old grandpa, however, cranks it up 100%, so that even those twats manage to wake up to the glory of the legendary Tiger JK. "YET" boasts a bold combo of the exotic beat, which is busy as fuck with Turkish music influences, cowbell, piano, violins, fire Hip-Hop base, and other shit, and Drunken Tiger's instantly recognizable snappy flow fitting really well with the snappy beat.

16. DJ Wegun - Seotulleo (Feat. sogumm & punchnello)

It took me a while to like this song. And now I sing "I'm so too low"  instead of "난 서툴러" (nan sotullo) when I'm washing dishes, haha. I like Sogumm's drunk singing more than punchnello's. I feel personal attachment to the lyrics in a way, because as an ugly loser I've never being in a relationship once and don't know shit about love (kill me, pls).

15. I.F - OPENING CEREMONY (Feat. Verbal Jint, MC Meta, Loco)

Whoever laughed at VJ when it was revealed that he was going to sing in the chorus of some song in Unpretty Rapstar should just shut up. He was great in P-Type's Time Lag 2. His singing is why I liked that song in the first place. He's great here too. Infinite Flow brings back old cheesiness via this pleasant romantic piano jazz beat. Let us toast to these old farts being alive and kicking.

FYI: Here's Infinite Flow's heart-wrenching Rainbow (feat. TabloKim Jong-wan (Nell)).

14. Whee In - EASY (Feat. Sik-K)

The only thing that matters to me in this song is the amazing chorus powered by Whee In's velvety vocals. I always forget the rest of the unimportant RnB shlock.

13. GIRIBOY - Used (Prod. By GIRIBOY, MISU) (Feat. Kid Milli)

Yo, pass me the AUX cord, 'cos I'm gonna  blast the fuck out of this addicting club garbage. For once I'm on board with Giriboy's experimental electro bs. The bass intro trapped me in on the first listen. The brain-dead lyrics are nothing sort of a poetic genius and they don't need to be: their main function is to pour in some additional layer of catchiness.  Kid Milli is a good feature. I like to imagine he says idubbbz' name at some point lol (he actually says AI, THE PLAYLIST). I also wrongly sing I'm super damn lewd during techno drop, haha. Used needs to be listened at full volume on good speakers. Smartphone earphones don't do it justice.

12. Drunken Tiger - A Tiger named JK feat. MC Meta, Dok2

이름만대면 kinda reminds me of old Hip-Hop songs from my childhood. The used sample and upbeat vibe is good.
